TMJ Disorder, or temporomandibular joint dysfunction, affects millions of people and can cause chronic pain, jaw tension, headaches, and difficulty chewing or speaking. While many conventional approaches aim to mask symptoms, a holistic path focuses on resolving the root cause. By integrating Myofascial Release, Craniosacral Therapy, and Āyurveda, individuals can experience deep, lasting relief from TMJ Disorder—naturally and effectively.
TMJ Disorder occurs when the jaw joint becomes misaligned or inflamed. This can result from stress, teeth grinding, posture imbalances, injury, dental work or emotional tension. Common symptoms include jaw pain, clicking or popping sounds, earaches, headaches, and restricted movement in the jaw or neck.
The key to lasting healing is addressing not just the joint itself, but the body systems and patterns contributing to the dysfunction.
Myofascial Release is a gentle, hands-on therapy that targets fascia—the connective tissue that surrounds muscles and organs. When the fascia around the jaw, neck, and shoulders becomes tight or restricted, it can contribute to TMJ pain. This therapy helps release those restrictions, restore movement, and reduce discomfort, especially in chronic cases
Craniosacral Therapy works with the craniosacral system—the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. With light, non-invasive touch, practitioners help release tension held in the head, face, and jaw. For TMJ Disorder, this therapy is highly effective in relieving pressure, promoting realignment, and calming the nervous system, which often plays a major role in jaw tension.
In addition to hands-on therapies such as myofascial release and biodynamic craniosacral therapy, clients at Anjali receive individualized Ayurvedic guidance to support the body’s healing between sessions. Since tension in the jaw is rarely isolated to just the muscular system, we address it through the full lens of systemic and elemental imbalance. Clients are guided in the use of gandusha (herbal oil pulling) to help relieve oral and fascial tension, and abhyanga—daily self-massage with medicated herbal oils—to ground the nervous system, reduce inflammation, and support detoxification through the lymphatic channels. Dietary recommendations are offered based on constitutional and seasonal needs, with an emphasis on reducing inflammation, calming the gut-brain axis, and nourishing the tissues involved in chronic holding patterns. This integrative approach ensures that the work done in-session is carried forward, allowing the body to reorganize and heal from within.
